How do I make my biceps visible without flexing?
Q. I wanna be able to have definition without flexing. Many other guys have it and i feel inferior lol. When i do flex theres a moderate peak no more than an inch. Are there any workouts/techniques that will get me the definition without flexing?
Asked by AZN - Wed Sep 9 19:59:36 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You HAVE to lift weights to get that sort of definition. You have to be willing to really work for it. To properly weight train you need a plan that you can stick with. I would try visiting www.bodyforlife.com It's a free site that gives you an actual workout for your whole body (weights and cardio). Trust me- start right away and you'll start seeing that definition in a couple months.

What do I have to do to get window flexing bass at home?
Q. How do you get windo flexing bass in your home? Besides speaker loudness, I care about BASS. What must you do to get window flexing, long throw deep bass in a house rather than a stupid car which can be done anywhere? Would I have to buy a strong power woofer or a passive woofer that is boxed with a strong amp?

A. Do you want to be another dumb tub thumper or do you want quality base? If you want quality base, look for an amp with the highest signal to noise ratio you can find (95 or above) and the lowest THD % (.1 is ok .01 is much better) A ported sub box will give you the long reverberating base, a sealed box will give you quick, tight, heart smashing base (great for cannon blasts) For the subwoofer itself, there is no replacement for displacement. The bigger the cone, the more air movement. The big ones will need strong magnets otherwise the cone will just be out of control and sound like junk. Wattage, whether its peak or RMS isnt as much of a valuable number as companies hype it to be. While power is good, the other numbers representing… [cont.]

Is your six pack supposed to be hard not flexing?
Q. I have a six pack and when i flex its rock hard but when im not flexing it is sorta firm but soft. Is it supposed to be like that?
Asked by mcrich - Wed May 19 17:36:42 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No muscle is hard when it's relaxed. "Firm but soft" sounds like an accurate description of relaxed muscle. This sounds completely normal. I will, however, direct you to Max Wettstein's video on "ab awareness."

Is it true that flexing makes your muscles stronger and more toned?
Q. Like, flexing while sitting down, watching TV, and holding it... Does that do anything helpful?
Asked by hardrock - Thu Feb 5 21:54:56 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. For the most part, it is better for you than not doing anything. If you don't want to work out, which you probably should since you seem to want to get stronger and more toned. Just practice maintaining a contraction for as long as possible and then constantly trying to beat that time. It'll help you establish more muscle control, but will not make you stronger or more toned. You'll need to overload, i.e. weight training, in order to improve in those areas.

Does flexing your legs while sitting help to burn calories?
Q. I know that everything actually burns calories, but does simply flexing help to work out your muscles?
Asked by curiosity - Fri Apr 10 22:19:34 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Flexing and holding for a count of 5, relaxing and repeating over and over and over again makes it an endurance type of exercise. It does burn calories, but really does not burn that much. Flexing and holding is called isotonic exercise. If intensity is high enough you can actually build muscle. Google Charles Atlas and you will see what I mean. He used this type of exercise along with other things decades ago.

How can I look more toned, while not flexing?
Q. I work out about 3 times a week, push myself a lot and eat enough protein. When I flex, my muscles are really visible. But when I'm not flexing I just look like any other guy. I'm talking about upper body by the way. So how can I look more toned when I'm just regular, not flexing?
Asked by Curious - Mon Dec 1 20:18:27 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In order to look toned while not flexing, one must have a fairly low bodyfat level. To achieve a low bodyfat level, one must consume only clean foods and exercise on a regular basis.

How are fuel tanks fixed inside aeroplane wings, allowing the wing to flex in flight, without flexing the tank
Q. If the fuel tanks are load bearing members of the wing, I can see how it's done, but if the tank is just a "passenger" within the wing, I can't see how it's done. ( I have only flown a few times, so I am totally in awe of how these big aeroplanes work)
Asked by Repairman - Tue Nov 20 07:16:10 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In many larger airplanes, the fuel tanks are "wet wings" where the skin of the wing and the structural ribs and stringers inside the wing are all part of the fuel tank. The joints and seams are sealed with a flexible sealant from the inside of the tank. There are manholes on the bottom of the wing that allow maintenance personnel to actually crawl up inside the wing spaces to reseal leaking fuel tanks after the tank has been drained. (You can't be claustrophobic if you want to be an aircraft mechanic!) Some older airplanes DO use rubber fuel bladders inside the wing spaces, or even individual metal or plastic fuel tanks, but modern designers prefer a wet wing because it is lighter and easier to build and maintain.

A. it will just change things a bit. I have pretty stiff bindings, soft boots, and a medium flex board. I love how the setup feels, I can move my ankles around and my foot has some play without loosing control over the board because my bindings are so tight.

What is the difference between flexing muscles and contracting them?
Q. I know that muscles contract in order to move our body parts, but if I flex my biceps for example, why doesn't my arm move? So if the muscles being flexed are the same muscles that contract to cause movement, than why doesn't my arm move when I flex my muscles? What's really going on?
Asked by Austin - Sun Mar 15 02:03:07 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. well u probably mean to just flex like showing off right? we will use your arm for example: if you flex you are engaging both the bicep and tricep, but if you are contracting, then one of the 2 muscles will stay relaxed and the other will be engaged, causing your arm to move.

what's the difference between flexing your muscles with no resistance and lifting an actual weight?
Q. I know that when you flex your muscles that the protagonist and antagonist work against each other, although the muscles don't fatigue like they would if you were pulling/pushing against an external resistance. Any idea why that is? ya but a flexed antagonist can slow down the movement of the protagonst therefore they don't work together directly, but they do work together. So what your trying to say is that your muscles contract harder when using an external resistance?
Asked by ++ ++ - Wed Jul 2 15:01:04 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. When u flex ur muscles the only thing that happens is the contractile units (actin and myosin) deep in ur muscles slide past each other (sliding filament theory) which causes ur muscle to shorten when they concentrically contract (the part of the lift when ur lifting the weight and not lowing it). When u lift an external resistance where the tension is great enough to cause the muscle to breakdown and get microtears in the fibers, the muscles will (over the course of a few days) repair itself. If this is done repeatedly (days, weeks, months, years), the muscle will add in more contractile units and more contractile units take up more space which makes the muscle bigger and stronger (more units=more strength). So therefore, using a… [cont.]

A. I believe it is throwback to when they were nursing with their mothers and the habit hangs on even when they grow up. It shows that they are content, comfortable and that they trust their surroundings and you. All of my cats have done it and they usually end up taking a nap once they're through their routine.

Muscle fiber generates tension through the action of actin and myosin cross-bridge cycling. While under tension, the muscle may lengthen, shorten or remain the same. Although the term 'contraction' implies shortening, when referring to the muscular system, it means muscle fibers generating tension with the help of motor neurons (the terms twitch tension, twitch force and fiber contraction are also used).
